made the package function and usable via pip

This merge request aims at closing #1 (closed) and all of the associated tasks. The package is now functional and documented, hence switched to beta version.

It closes #1 (closed),#2 (closed),#3 (closed),#4 (closed),#5 (closed),#6 (closed),#7 (closed),#8 (closed) and #9 (closed).
